Outgoing president, Marissa Choate, turned over the gavel to her successor, Jan Griffin, at a recent meeting of Hennessey Friends of the Library. Other officers for the 2019-2020 season are: P.J. Stewart, vice president; Ginger Cox, secretary; and Patsy Jackson, treasurer.

Tanner Roberts, right, field representative for U.S. Senator James Lankford, was the guest speaker at a recent Kingfisher Rotary Club meeting. Roberts told of Lankford’s activities during the current session of the U.S. Senate and also answered questions from Rotarians and guests.

CHS Okarche employees spent multiple days from April 25 through May 1 providing safety training in various communities. Two employees were in Watonga April 25 teaching grain safety at the Progressive Ag Safety Day. An estimated 170 fourth graders from the area attended the event.

Work done to reduce the impact of flooding on Kingfisher and surrounding area residents since the massive 500-year flood in 2007 are expected to be put to the test this week. Overnight downpours pushed Kingfisher Creek and Uncle John Creek, which merge in Kingfisher, to flood stage Tuesday morning.

Kingfisher County commissioners put off action on two of the three bids for resurfacing sections of county roads at their meeting Monday.District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss and District 3 Commissioner Heath Dobrovolny both said they wanted more time to study the bids, which were opened a week earlier.

The Kingfisher High School boys track and field team was recognized at the state Capitol Thursday, May 16, for winning the 2019 Class 4A academic state championship. Effective July 1, the water, sewer and trash rates for Hennessey customers will go up 3 percent.That’s what the Hennessey Board of Trustees decided at their monthly meeting last week.The last raise in utilities was in 2010, and the cost of living has gone up 2.

Erin Hopkins graduated May 11 from Southern Nazarene University with a degree in psychology.

Kingfisher County Extension hosted a basic cake decorating workshop for the members of the community on May 14. The class was held at the Kingfisher County Extension Office. Lindy Hoel, the FCS educator, was the instructor and provided materials for the class.
