Two Kingfisher High School wrestlers came within a single win of becoming the first girls state qualifier in their program’s history.However, both fell just short of that feat Tuesday during the Class 5A west regional being held at the Kingfisher APB.

Balko hung for one quarter.Lomega dominated three of them.Big advantage for Lomega.The Lady Raiders cruised into a regional championship game as they thumped Balko 66-21 Thursday in a winner’s bracket semifinal.They’ll play No. 20 Boise City for that regional title Saturday night in Leedey.

TRC regular season races finally decided

The Cashion girls basketball team took a loss on one court, but got a big win of sorts on another one 45 miles west.The Lady Wildcats saw their regular season come to an end Monday as they were dealt a 54-42 loss to top-ranked Dale, which is also the defending Class 2A state champion.

Class B’s top-ranked teams win big in Calumet

Doverwhelmed.That was Olive’s situation just minutes into its regional semifinal with Class B’s topranked team.Dover made eight 3-pointers and scored 36 points in just one quarter to set the tone in an 8335 victory at Calumet.

The Kingfisher girls basketball team begins its quest for a third straight appearance in the Class 4A state tournament this weekend.KHS is the host site of a Class 4A district championship when Blanchard’s teams come to town.The girls tipoff at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Lomega dominates Vici for district titles

The rubber match - and the district championship goes to Lomega.The Raiders and Vici had previously played each other twice this season.Lomega edged the Indians 65-64 on Dec. 1 at home and Vici repaid the favor by a 65-63 margin on the final day of the Hammon Tournament about five weeks later.

Prue hadn’t played a ranked team all season.That streak stopped Saturday night and it didn’t go well.Class B’s top-ranked Dover had no problems claiming a district title as it pummeled the visiting Lady Rockets 74-33.

Back to their winning ways

Okarche got back on the winning track at exactly the right time.The Lady Warriors built a big early lead at home Saturday, then held on to beat Wellston 45-35.The win came in a Class A district championship game and it also snapped Okarche’s two-game skid to close out the regular season.

Lady Jackets lengthen win streak, injury list

The wins keep coming for the Kingfisher girls basketball team.Unfortunately, so do the hits.KHS extended its win streak to 12 games Friday by holding off visiting Elk City 60-44.
