Dover girls take 5th at Skeltur

After suffering an opening-round loss, Dover salvaged the consolation championship from the Skeltur Conference Tournament last weekend.The Lady Longhorns picked up their trophy after Saturday’s 56-37 victory over Pond Creek-Hunter at Stride Bank Center in Enid.

Raiders rebound for third place

Lomega didn’t get the championship it wanted, but did get the bounce-back win it needed.The Raiders rebounded from an upset loss to Cherokee in Friday’s semifinals to beat Ringwood 70-50 Saturday in the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament’s third-place game.

Guymon and Yukon were able to hang tough.They just couldn’t hang with Rayland Garner.The Kingfisher High School senior scored 47 points over the final two days to lead the Lady Jackets to their second consecutive Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational championship.

Tuttle dominates district duals

Top-ranked Tuttle easily took care of the competition during District 4A-2 duals on Thursday.Wrestling on their home mats, the Tigers qualified for dual state by defeating Kingfisher, Douglass and Newcastle in an afternoon of round-robin duals.Tuttle has won dual state 12 consecutive years.

Thursday’s local tournament roundup

Both Lomega teams moved easily into the semifinals of the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament.The top-seeded and defending champ Lady Raiders hammered Deer Creek-Lamont 90-26 at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale High School.The team made 15 3-pointers, five each by Darcy Roberts and Abby Swart.

Okarche girls headed to TOC

Turns out the 2022 Tournament of Champions is going to have a strong Kingfisher County flavor.It was reported last week that the Kingfisher High School boys had accepted an invitation to play in next season’s tournament.

It had been more than two weeks since the Kingfisher girls basketball team took the court.Edmond Santa Fe’s JV team took on the brunt of that frustration.The Lady Jackets began defense of their Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational title Thursday with a 78-28 victory over the Lady Wolves at the APB.
