Kingfisher’s search for a new high school girls basketball coach ended Thursday night.The Kingfisher Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Taylor Cooper near the end of a special meeting.Cooper, an assistant at Edmond Santa Fe, said she is “excited” for the opportunity.

Two Kingfisher High School basketball players have picked up a prestigious academic honor. Jarret Birdwell and Maverick Ridenour were named to the 2021 Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State team.

Add another all-state honor to Adysen Wilson and Emma Duffy’s lists. The Lomega duo last week were named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State basketball team.

Vance Raney has officially made the Three Rivers Conference Most Valuable Player award a family tradition. The Cashion High School junior was named the 2020-21 winner of the honor last week after a vote of conference coaches.

Make it 6 for 6 for Crescent’s Dominic Stevens. The senior golfer on Monday fired an even-par 70 to win the Kingfisher Small-School Invitational. Stevens has now won medalist honors at all six tournaments he’s played in this season.

It wasn’t how it started for Ally Stephenson in her events on Saturday. It was how they ended. Stephenson closed strong in both the long jump and high jump to win the events at the 10th annual KHS Track and Field Invitational.

It was a good day to be a Mecklenburg. The trio of Mason Mecklenburg, Braxton Mecklenburg and Maddox Mecklenburg combined to win six medals - including three golds - on Saturday to help the Kingfisher High School boys team to a second-place finish in their own meet.

Kingfisher kept on track to set up a district championship showdown with Heritage Hall at the end of the regular season. The Jackets did their part last Monday and Tuesday by sweeping Harrah in a pair of District 4A-1 games… although that second win came with a bit of drama.
