Okarche, Lomega teams move into semis

Three girls teams from the Three Rivers Conference advanced to the semifinals of the Coyle Invitational with wins on Thursday. That includes top-seeded Okarche, which handed Mulhall-Orlando a 72-39 defeat in teh quarterfi nals.

Tuttle wins 4A-2 duals

Tuttle staked claim to the District 4A-2 dual wrestling championship Thursday to advance to dual state. Tuttle defeated Kingfisher 71-9 in the decisive dual. The Tigers, top-ranked in Class 4A, have won the last 10 dual state championships.

KHS squads advance to Buckle semifinals

Kingfisher’s bid for a fourth consecutive Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational started Thursday with expected results. The top-seeded Yellow-jackets cruised past Guymon 71-42 in the eighth and final game of the day at the APB.

Lady Wildcats get offensive in road victory

Cashion and Wellston scored at a torrid pace in the first quarter of their girls basketball game last Friday night. Only one of them kept it up. The visiting Lady Wildcats put the defensive clamps on Wellston over the final three quarters to earn a 79-37 victory.

Lady Warriors continue winning ways

It hasn’t always been easy and hasn’t always been pretty, but the Okarche girls basketball team keeps fi nding a way to win. Last Friday was the latest example when, despite trailing at halftime and being pushed for four quarters, the Lady Warriors downed Thomas 42-34 on the road.

DCLA no problem for Lomega squads

There wasn’t any snow in Deer Creek last Friday night, but there were two Snowdens. That was awful news for host Deer Creek-Lamont as it fell prey to Lomega, 80-32, in a Cherokee Strip Conference game. Noah Snowden and Blake Snowden combined for 44 points as they outscored the entire DCLA squad.

Jackets get ‘2nd chance’ win

If everyone deserves a second chance, the Kingfisher boys basketball team took full advantage last week. The Yellowjackets grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and scored 23 second-chance points Friday as they pulled away from No. 19 in an 80-56 road victory.

Hennessey, OBA split games

Only four Hennessey players scored last Friday in the Eagles’ Three Rivers Conference contest at Oklahoma Bible Academy in Enid. In this case, four was enough. Hennessey overcame an early deficit to down OBA 66-56 to remain undefeated in the conference regular season.

Lady Jackets trounce Clinton behind early 3’s

Clinton dared Kingfi sher to shoot…so Kingfisher shot. The Lady Jackets put an end to a two-game losing skid last Friday night with a 50-29 victory at the Tornado Dome. Clinton packed into a zone early and the Lady Jackets responded with four of their nine made 3-pointers in the fi rst quarter.

Long grabs gold at conference

A year ago, Isaac Long made it to the 126-pound final of the Western Conference Wrestling Tournament as a freshman. Long was outlasted 8-7 by teammate Presten Coughlan in the fi nal match and had to settle for silver. One year and two weight classes heavier, Long did no settling last weekend.
