Soccer squads pick up district wins

The Kingfisher boys soccer team picked up another big win on Tuesday.The Jackets downed ASTEC Charter 4-1 in Oklahoma City in a District 3A-2 matchup.The win improved KHS to 5-2 in the district and secured third place in the district.

Lomega was swept by Leedey in a Class B baseball district on Thursday.The Bison eliminated the Raiders with wins of 8-0 and 9-1.The Raiders finished the season 6-14 •••Okarche received a bye for its district round in Class A.The top-ranked Warriors will host a regional this week.

Orozco is Marlow medalist

Senior Luciano Orozco fired a 1-over-par 71 on Wednesday to win the individual championship of the Marlow High School Boys Invitational golf tournament.Orozco’s round featured four bogeys and three birdies and he played the backnine in 1-under par.

Kroener qualifies for state golf

The Kingfisher High School girls golf team fell short in its bid for state, but will be sending an individual.Layla Kroener shot a 97 Monday in a 4A regional at the Elk City Golf & Country Club.

Dover dumps Sweetwater for district title

Dover’s quest to get back to the state baseball tournament began Thursday with a district championship.The fourth-ranked Longhorns thumped visiting Sweetwater 8-0 and 12-0 to sweep a best-of-three series in their Class B district.

Golf benefit to aid Meals on Wheels, Santa’s Toyland

Two local groups with the mission of serving others in need will benefit this year from local golfers.The Kingfisher Golf Association’s 11th annual benefit tournament will be held Saturday, May 2.The four-person scramble will tee off at 9 a.m. at Kingfisher Golf Course.

Snowden lands Lomega boys basketball job

Jett Snowden doesn’t have any grand illusions for his first head coaching job.At least not for its beginning.However, his foundation wasn’t built on illusions, but rather hard work and toughness.Snowden was approved last week as the new head boys basketball coach at Lomega High School.

Roof leads Jackets at Hefner

Freshman River Roof paced the Kingfisher High School boys at the OCA Eagle Invitational last Friday.Roof shot a 5-over-par 77 to tie for seventh place out of 90 golfers in the tournament held at Lake Hefner Golf Club in Oklahoma City.

3 from county earn Region 1’s top honor

Three athletes from Kingfisher County received one of the highest honors last week from the Oklahoma Coaches Association.Okarche’s Easton Roby and Jett Mueggenborg were named the OCA’s Region 1 Co-Male Athletes of the Year in a vote of its coaches.

Lady Jackets 2nd at Chisholm meet

County athletes excelled in the jumping events at last Friday’s Chisholm High School Invitational Track Meet.Kingfisher’s Ela Hartman set a new personal best in winning the long jump, Dover’s Kylee Bell needed just one clearance to win the pole vault and the two both won medals in the high jump.
