Voters will get the chance to address Oklahoma’s exploding Medicaid costs, which threaten to divert hundreds of millions of dollars from things like schools and public safety, under two pieces of legislation approved by members of the Oklahoma House of Representatives this week.

When Madell Henderson retired in 2005, she left big shoes to fill. With 32 years of dedicated service as dispatcher and records clerk to the Kingfisher Police Department, Henderson was an important and loved asset to the department and the community. She would be hard to replace.

A meeting Sunday of the Keith Lowry-Henry Ellyson Post 5 of the American Legion served double duty. Local veterans and guests not only celebrated the 107th birthday of the American Legion at the Kingfi sher Elks Lodge, but also recognized first responders from across the county.

The annual Lenten Community Service series sponsored by the Kingfisher Ministerial Alliance run through next week. Each of the two remaining services, which includes the one scheduled this week, will be held each Wednesday at noon, with a meal to follow at 12:30 p.m.
