Collamore shuts down Calumet in No. 1 battle
In a showdown of topranked teams, the Warriors proved better than the Chieftains.
Class A No. 1 Okarche got a stellar outing from Cy Collamore at home Tuesday as it downed Class B’s top-rated Calumet 3-1.
Collamore pitched a complete-game two-hitter and struck out eight Chieftains as Okarche improved to 14-1 on the season.
Calumet wasn’t able to get to Collamore until the sixth inning when the Chieftains strung together both of their hits - both singles - and a sacrifice fly.
The Warriors had already posted a 3-0 lead by that point.
They got the first run early as Luke Hill led off the bottom of the first with a double and scored when Easton Roby followed him up with a single.
Hill scored again in the third when he opened the frame with a walk, stole second and was sent home on Brett Carnott’s double.
The final run came two innings later.
This time it was Roby getting a leadoff double and, after stealing third, made it 3-0 with Jett Mueggenborg’s RBI groundout.
Roby finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored.
Okarche had five total hits as a team.
Collamore, who gave up one walk, faced just 25 batters in recording the 21 outs.
