KHS ends slide against Clinton

The right arm of Kennedy Stewart helped Kingfi sher break its only losing streak of the season.

The freshman allowed just one hit last Friday as the Lady Jackets held off Clinton 1-0 at home.

The victory moved Kingfisher’s District 4A-3 record to 3-2.

It also ended a twogame it didn’t come easy.

losing skid, though Clinton’s Brinley Taylor kept the Lady Jackets off home plate until the fifth inning.

That’s when Jancee Matthews singled and advanced on a bunt by Adlee Friesen.

The Lady Reds’ error on the play allowed Matthews to score.

Stewart made it stick as she retired the Lady Reds in order over the next two innings to grab the win.

She struck out nine batters on the night without allowing a walk.

Friesen had three of Kingfisher’s hits from her leadoff spot. Addison Johnson added two base knocks.

The Lady Jackets returned to their home diamond Monday for their final non-district game of the regular season.

This time it was Kynlee Brunson who got the shutout in an 8-0 victory.

Brunson scattered three hits over five innings while striking out two.

She got an early run from her team when Reese Roof and Kendall Farrar delivered back-to-back singles and Kinlee East loaded the bases with a walk.

Johnson grounded back to the pitcher, who was able to get Roof at home on a force out.

The Broncos tried to double up Johnson at first, but she beat the throw.

As that happened, Farrar rounded third and scored on the play.

Johnson got some more bat on the ball in the third inning when her double sent home East and Farrar. Johnson also scored in the inning to push the lead to 4-0.

The sophomore struck again in the fourth as she belted another double to score East, who had just sent home two runners with her own triple.

Roof ended the game in the fifth with an RBI single to score Friesen.

Friesen ended the day 3 for 4 with a pair of runs scored.

Johnson was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and a run.

Roof, Farrar and East all had two hits and combined for five runs and 3 RBIs.

The win gave KHS a 19-4 record as it hits the most important stretch of the season.

The Lady Jackets hosted Elk City on Tuesday (after press time) and traveled to Woodward on Thursday.

Those two games as well as the five after that are all district games.
