Irene Ruth Harzman was born June 5, 1932, in Russell, Kan., to David Mai and Christina (Kerbs) Mai.

Irene grew up on a farm west of Russell with her seven brothers and sisters. Irene attended a country school and often talked about the two miles she often walked to and from school.

Irene loved the outdoors and performed her daily chores of feeding the chickens and cattle.

During harvest time, she drove the horse and wagon out to the field to be loaded with wheat and drove it back to the farm and shoveled the wheat by hand into the grain bins.

Irene met the love of her life, Fred “Bud” Harzman and they were married on Sept. 11, 1949, in Hays, Kan.

To this union, Bud and Irene were blessed with three children, Alan, Vien-na and Chris.

Bud and Irene were active members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Kingfi sher.

Irene was an accomplished seamstress and was often seen up in the wee hours of the night finishing dresses for her daughters to wear for special holidays.

After all three children were of school age, Irene took up playing golf. She was very competitive playing in the A flight and winning her share of first place finishes.

She made two holesin- one during her playing years.

Irene was an avid gardener and often won the Green Spade for yard of the week in Kingfisher.

When Bud retired, he and Irene moved to Yuma, Ariz., living there 25 years and later moving back to Kingfisher to be near their family.

Bud and Irene were blessed with 68 years of marriage and encompassing many great memories.

Irene passed away Sept. 10, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bud; son Alan Harzman; daughter Chris Yost; son-in-law Gene Lewis; her parents; brothers William (Bill), Raymond (Ray) and David; and sisters Ophelia, Elma Edna, and Ella.

She is survived by her daughter Vienna Lewis of Woodward; daughter-inlaw Kay Harzman of Kingfi sher; son-in-law Dr. Gene Yost of Crescent; grandchildren Alana Weaver and husband James of Lindale, Texas, Dirk Harzman and wife Kirby of Oklahoma City, Sarah Nealis and husband Danny of Lovell, Jeanna Mullins and husband Ryan of Woodward, Ross Lewis of Oklahoma City; five great-grandchildren; brother- in-law Kip Harzman and wife Margaret of Wimauma, Fla.; sister-in-law Candi Detwiler of Valley Center, Kan.; and sister-in-law Jean Mai of Russell, Kan.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.
