Make that three wins in a row for the Hennessey High School football team.

And chalk this one up as the most impressive.

A huge second quarter spurred the Eagles to a 4221 home win Friday night against Alva.

The victory pushed their season record to 3-2 and, more importantly, kept them undefeated in District 2A-II-1 games.

At 2-0, Hennessey is one of three teams without a district loss.

“I would say it was our best performance of the season on both sides of the ball,” head coach Mark Cox said.

The Eagles scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to stake a 28-0 halftime lead.

Then Hennessey matched each of Alva’s first two touchdowns in the second half to keep any comeback hopes quiet.

A bulk of the damage was done on the ground.

Hennessey’s two-headed rushing attack quarterback Levi Ferrell and running back Mario Lopez accounted for most of the team’s 301 yards on the ground.

Lopez got the bulk of the carries with 26 and turned them into 131 yards.

Ferrell added 157 yards on his 17 attempts and scored four rushing touchdowns.

Two were in the first half.

Ferrell found the end zone from 25 yards out in the first quarter and then from 7 yards in the second.

In between, early in the second, Beau Vinson picked off an Alva pass and returned it 34 yards for a score.

Later in the second, Ferrell connected with Luis Macias-Montoya for a 31yard touchdown.

Alva got on the board in the third quarter, but Henessey answered back with a touchdown drive that saw Ferrell score from 34 yards out.

After Alva again scored in the fourth, it was Ferrell’s 1-yard plunge that pushed the lead back to 42-13.

Alva couldn’t counter with its ground game. The Eagle defense held the Goldbugs to 79 yards on 36 rushing attempts.

Alva had 131 through the air.

Hennessey had 348 total yards of offense.

Lopez and David Gonzalez led the defense with eight tackles apiece.

Hennessey will attempt to push its win streak to four games Friday when it visits Meeker (1-4, 0-2).
