Lady Eagles finish 11th in 2A; Copeland leads way

Emma Copeland helped lead Hennessey to 11th place in the Class 2A girls state cross country meet.

The Lady Eagles scored 275 points Saturday in the race held at North Rock Creek in Shawnee.

Regent Prep easily won the state championship by tallying just 30 points. Hooker was the runner-up with 69, four better than Southwest Covenant.

In her last high school race, Emma Copeland led the Lady Eagles’ contingent by placing 30th out of 137 competitors.

She completed the twomile course in 13:23.4. Copeland placed 23rd out of runners who scored points for their teams.

Fellow senior Jocelyn Matousek crossed the line in 13:49.8, good for 45th (34th).

She was two spots ahead of Julianne Matousek, who finished in 13:55.7.

And Julianne, a freshman, was two spots ahead of JoHanna Matousek, another freshman, who ran the course in 16:06.3.

Five Hennessey boys qualified for state as individuals and four ended up competing.

The Eagles were led by Asher Ward, who was 67th out of 139 runners.

He ran the 5,000 meter track in 19:57.3.
