Ott’s 3 barrage leads Lady Raiders past Dover
After a disappointing end to last season, Hadley Ott made her first 3-point attempt of her senior year.
That came last Tuesday against Drummond, but Ott commenced to miss her next eight attempts.
With one of his leaders’ confidence maybe a bit on the ropes, Kevin Lewallen stepped in.
“I told her last year is over and nobody is mad about it,” Lewallen said. “And if there’s a big shot to be taken this year, I want her doing it.
“I know she’s going to make it.”
She certainly made a lot of them on Saturday.
Ott nailed nine 3-pointers on the road as her Lady Raiders handed Dover a 77-18 defeat.
The win improved Lomega to 2-0 while the Lady Longhorns dropped to 1-2.
Ott started her barrage early as she banged in six treys in the first quarter alone.
She scored 18 in the quarter as Lomega got out to a 30-7 advantage.
Her other three shots from long range fell in the third quarter as part of a 25-1 run.
All told, Ott was 9 of 12 from 3-point range and scored 27 points.
“Some of the girls wanted me to put her back in so she could get to 10 3-pointers,” Lewallen said. “I told them she already had her chance but she missed three of them.”
All joking aside, Lewallen said it was good to see Ott find her range.
“If she shoots anywhere close to that, it makes us so much better,” he said.
“And she has the ability to go off like that on just about any night we play.”
Lomega made 14 3-pointers as a team.
Three of them came from Aliana Lawson as she added 16 points.
She scored 10 in the third quarter.
Reagan Snowden added 15 for the Lady Raiders.
Dover struggled to handle Lomega’s pressure before Lewallen called off the dogs. The Lady Longhorns had just five made field goals in the game.
They were led by freshman Remi Goodwin’s eight points.
It was their second loss in as many nights as they were defeated 60-36 Friday at Drummond.
Dover trailed, but also kept within striking distance most of the night.
Drummond got out to a six-point lead in the first quarter and extended it to 14 at halftime. It was a 13-point game entering the fourth before the home team pulled away.
Goodwin scored 15 for Dover while Leslie Soto added seven.
