David Calvin Hailey of Dover went to his heavenly home on Nov. 6, 2025.

David was born May 6, 1955, in Seminole.

In 1966, David and his loving parents, John and Doris Hopper, along with his six – and “soon-to-be” seven – siblings moved to Sinton, Texas.

David took great pride in being a guiding figure to his seven younger siblings. He was their protector, mentor and role model, offering his strength, love and wisdom as they grew up together.

His influence in their lives was profound and his love for them was immeasurable.

He graduated from Sinton High School in 1973.

Shortly after graduation, David started his career with Farrar Construction where he dedicated 45-plus years of service.

He was known as the best pipeline stringer and later became the most thorough foreman. David took great pride in his work ethic and his relatability earned him great respect and admiration from everyone who worked alongside him.

After finding his permanent residence in Dover, David shared a close bond with stepdaughter Tammy whom he lovingly helped raise for several years.

In 1996, David fell in love at first sight with Neva. They tied the knot on Oct. 30, 1999, in Eureka Springs, Ark., with a close friend, Storm, and little sister, Faye.

For 26 years, David and Neva created a life together that was built on love, laughter and an unbreakable bond. Their marriage was a beautiful example of joint affection and devotion, a true partnership that brought them happiness and strength through every season of life.

Together David and Neva also shared a life with two stepdaughters, Cortney and Candice.

David will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated stepfather; he embraced the role of stepfather with unwavering love and commitment.

He took on the responsibility of raising three daughters with patience and a strong sense of devotion. His love and support shaped their lives and he became not just a father figure, but a true mentor.

The bond he shared with each of his stepdaughters was one built on respect.

He experienced true contentment in the simple joys of smoking meat, jamming to blues music and gathering friends and family for a good barbecue.

He loved cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, and the MLB team, the Houston Astros, but nothing brought him more happiness than watching his grandchildren grow and laugh.

Their smiles and laughter were his greatest source of pride and joy.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Hopper, and grandparents Skinner and grandparents Hopper.

He is survived by his loving wife, Neva Hailey of Dover; father, John Hopper of Maud; daughter, Tammy and Josh of Freeman of Texas, and their four children; daughter, Cortney and Antwaun Fuston of Dover; and daughter, Candice and German Eliosa of Kingfisher.

He is also survived by his siblings Cindy Hailey of California, Ed and Taletha Hailey of Texas, Danny and Flora Hailey of Florida, James and Linda Hopper of Texas, Julie Hopper of Maud, Johnnie Hopper of Oklahoma and Faye and David Storm of Maud.

David’s legacy also lives on through his grandchildren: Zaila, Ossie, Elena, Tatum, and Mateo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members who loved him deeply.

Services for David will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Dover Christian Church under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service. A graveside service will follow at Dover Cemetery.
