Lady Jackets nail 11 3-pointers to win by 25
Time will tell if Bethany is in fact one of the topranked teams in the class.
But for now, Kingfisher’s resume shows the Lady Jackets dominating a topfi ve team in the class.
Behind 11 3-pointers, the Lady Jackets made their home debut a successful one Tuesday by thumping Bethany 65-40 at the APB.
Bethany entered the game ranked fourth in Class 4A as voted on by the coaches in the initial rankings of the season.
KHS was ranked sixth, but steadily pulled away from the Lady Bronchos, who won back-to-back state titles in 2023 and 2024 and were quarterfinalists last season.
Reese Roof nailed two treys and scored eight points in the first quarter.
Her 3-pointer at 1:35 of the frame gave KHS a 16-7 lead.
Kingfisher’s defense continually set up the offense, including early in the second when Abbie Myers’ steal and pass ahead to Mattie Slezickey for a layup pushed the edge to 24-10.
A timeout by Bethany didn’t help as Ela Hartman drained back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 30-11 with 5:10 to play in the half.
The Lady Jackets had five 3-pointers in the first half and led by 18.
They didn’t cool off in the second.
Roof, Hartman and Slezickey each made one in the third quarter after Bethany switched to a zone defense.
Hartman made two more in the fourth and Slezickey yet another.
Of Kingfisher’s 26 second- half points, 18 came from beyond the arc.
Hartman eventually led all scorers with 21 points.
Right on her heels was Roof, who finished with 20.
Slezickey scored 14 as KHS improved its record to 2-1.
