Casady no match for Lady Jackets
The Kingfisher girls basketball team has light work this week and on Tuesday made light work of its only foe.
The Lady Jackets downed visiting Casady 48-28 on Tuesday at the APB.
It will be their only game this week as the team won’t defend its crown at the Wheat Capital Tournament due to having played in the previous week’s Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic.
KHS had a strong showing at that tournament with a runner-up finish and carried the momentum into the home game against the Lady Cyclones.
It wasn’t until the 6:15 mark of the second quarter that Casady managed its first field goal of the game.
Kate Naifeh’s 3-pointer, however, only pulled her team within 18-4.
Kingfisher’s offense was jump-started by its pressure and the scoring of Abbie Myers and Reese Roof.
The duo was named to the Mid-America all-tournament team, then combined to score 14 points in the first quarter against Casady.
The lead was 28-11 at halftime and then the third quarter saw Kingfisher get a scoring boost from a pair outside of the usual suspects.
Taitym Walker knocked down a 3-pointer and scored 5 points in the third while Kendall Farrar came off the bench to nail two treys of her own.
They sparked Kingfisher to 22 points as it extended its lead to 28.
Farrar finished the game with 10 points, one of four Lady Jackets in double figures.
Myers scored 15 as did Ela Hartman. The latter had at least one field goal in every quarter.
Roof ended her night with 14.
Kingfisher hosts 3A’s fourth-ranked Alva on Tuesday.
The Lady Jackets, who improved to 7-3, are currently fifth in 4A. They defeated Alva 59-38 in the third place game of the Dale tournament last month.
