Only five players scored for Hennessey in the Eagles’ home game Tuesday night with Watonga.

But they scored a lot. The Eagles produced a season-high point total as they downed Watonga 87-74.

It was Hennessey’s best win of the season as Watonga came in with a 6-6 mark.

However, the visiting Eagles had no defensive answer for Hagen Copeland or his Hennessey teammates, for that matter.

Copeland made three 3-pointers and scored 19 points in the first half as Hennessey outscored Watonga 21-15 in each of the first two quarters.

Watonga cut into its deficit and got it to single digits in the third quarter, but Hennessey outscored the visitors 29-23 in the fourth.

Part of that was at the free throw line where Hennessey made all 8 of its attempts down the stretch. But the home Eagles also made nine field goals, three of which were 3-pointers.

Copeland made one of those and finished his night with 30 points.

The other four Hennessey starters also scored in double figures.

Beau Vinson poured in 23 points, which included 7 in the fourth quarter.

Ryker Painter scored 14 and had 8 in the fourth.

Brytan Gardner and Freddy Meraz both scored 10 points as Hennessey improved its mark to 4-7.

Lady Eagles win big

There won’t be any losing streak for the Hennessey girls.

Coming off a loss to Fairview in the conference tournament championship game, the Lady Eagles thumped visiting Watonga 57-40 at home on Tuesday night.

Clare Munroe scored 24 points as Hennessey improved to 9-2 on the season.

Hennessey took care of business early as it held Watonga to just 7 points in each of the first three quarters.

Along the way, the home Lady Eagles steadily extended their lead from 8 to 15 to 27.

Watonga closed the gap with a 19-9 run in the fourth quarter when the game was well out of reach.

Munroe scored at least 4 points in every quarter and went 8 for 8 from the free throw line.

Hennessey also got 15 points from Emma Copeland, which included 10 in the third quarter when her team came out of the half with a 19-7 run.

Ally Painter chipped in 8 points for Hennessey, 6 of which came in the first quarter.
