It happens in waves of 3’s

With its three total wins on the season, Alva wasn’t supposed to provide much of a roadblock for the Kingfisher Yellowjackets.

And it didn’t. The Jackets made a season-high 13 3-pointers and tied their highest point total of the year Tuesday in an 80-45 win over the visiting Goldbugs at the APB.

Coming off just their second loss of the season, the Jackets quickly scored the game’s first 9 points, made four treys in the first quarter and never looked back.

They were up 25-13 after a quarter and 46-23 at the half.

And along the way, the Jackets shot the long ball often and accurately, with one exception.

The Jackets were 0 for 4 from long range in the third.

Outside of that, KHS went 4 of 5 in the first, 5 of 7 in the second and 4 of 5 in the third.

Michael Easley nailed two of them in the first, another in the second and one in the fourth.

The senior was 4 of 5 overall and led all scorers with his 20 points.

Cash Laird, Hayes White and Izak Oaks each nailed two 3-pointers.

Arik Luke and Jackson Willbanks both knocked one down during the course of the game, then to finish it off, Chandler Shriver-Johnson heaved a halfcourt shot at the final buzzer.

It found the backboard, then the bottom of the net.

Overall, the Jackets were 13 of 21 from beyond the arc, good for 61.9 percent.

They also knocked down 18 shots in the paint and shot 55.4 percent overall.

White added 14 points and also had 6 assists and 4 steals.

Laird contributed 13 points while Luke scored 11 to go with a team-high 5 rebounds.

That pushed Kingfisher, now ranked ninth in Class 4A, to a 10-2 record.
