With a couple of minutes gone in the boys’ game Tuesday night, thoughts of an upset were possibly seeping through the crowd at the Eagle Event Center.

Hennessey had jumped on visiting Okarche 12-3 in the early goings and momentarily had Class A’s two-time defending state champs stunned.

Headlines were made by the end of the night, but they didn’t go the Eagles’ way.

Okarche - namely Jett Mueggenborg - turned things around in a big way and eventually cruised to a 99-41 victory in the Three Rivers Conference showdown.

Mueggenborg led the charge as he caught fire for a career-high 51 points.

“He just got blistering hot,” said coach Aaron West in an understatement.

Mueggenborg was blistering by the end of the first quarter.

He scored 29 points in the frame as the Warriors recovered to take a 34-18 lead.

Mueggenborg tacked on 16 more points in the frame and finished the half with 45.

He played about midway through the third quarter and scored six more in that span.

All told, Mueggenborg was 20 of 29 from the floor.

That included making 12 of 13 shots inside the 3-point line and 8 of 16 from beyond it. He was 3 of 6 on free throws.

Mueggenborg chipped in 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

Okarche rebounded from its slow start to lead 71-30 at the half.

Ethan Kirby was also hot from long range.

He made three in that second-quarter burst and was 4 of 7 for the game.

He scored 12 points. The Warriors also got 8 points and 5 assists from Easton Roby.

Hennessey was led by Hagen Copeland, who scored 11.

The Eagles struggled against Okarche’s pressure and eventually turned it over 31 times.

That led to 50 Warrior points.

Okarche improved to 16-3 while Hennessey dropped to 6-7 with the loss.
