Some things change.

Others remain the same. There were a ton of changes to the schedule of the 2026 Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational.

It started early. Teams couldn’t show up. JV teams were thrown in the mix. More teams couldn’t show up other days. Games were moved. Games were canceled.

When the dust settled Wednesday night - more than a week after the tournament started - there was some familiarity.

The Kingfisher Lady Jackets were champs.

They claimed the title for the sixth straight year with a 60-48 win over Weatherford in the title game at the APB.

It was Kingfisher’s fourth straight year to beat the Lady Eagles in the championship.

Known to be slow starters this year, that wasn’t the case for the Lady Jackets on Wednesday.

They scored the game’s first 9 points and went up 14-2 just 2:30 into the game on Ela Hartman’s 3-pointer.

KHS scored 25 first-quarter points and went up 33-14 on Kendall Farrar’s 3-pointer with 2:50 to play in the first half.

But as was the theme much of the night, when KHS appeared poised to put the game away, Weatherford stayed in it.

The Lady Eagles closed the first half with an 8-2 run and kept within striking distance for much of the third quarter.

Reese Roof was kept quiet by her former Weatherford team much of the night, but finally was able to spring free for an open look with 6:26 to play.

Her 3-pointer put Kingfi sher up 54-36 and prompted a Lady Eagle timeout.

It turns out the visitors had one last surge in them.

They answered Roof’s trey with a 10-0 run and held KHS scoreless for more than 5 minutes.

Dasia Givens’ 3-pointer with 3:05 to go - her second in the quarter and fourth of the game - pulled Weatherford within 54-46.

But KHS only gave up 2 more points the rest of the game and got some breathing room at the free throw line.

Hartman broke Kingfisher’s scoring drought with a pair of free throws with 1:10 to play, pushing KHS back up by double digits, 56-46.

Hartman and Mattie Slezickey went a combined 6 of 6 from the free throw line in the fourth as Roof’s early 3-pointer was the lone field goal in the quarter for KHS.

For the game, the Lady Jackets made 15 of 16 free throws.

Hartman, Slezickey and Abbie Myers did a bunch of the early damage to gain the initial lead.

Myers scored 8 points in the paint in the first quarter while Slezickey and Hartman each made a 3-pointer and combined for 13 points.

Myers scored 4 more in the second quarter as KHS led 35-13 at the break.

She finished her night with 19, 14 of which came in the first half.

Hartman also scored 19, but did most of her damage after the break.

She scored 9 in the third quarter and made all four of her free throw attempts in the fourth.

Slezickey finished the night with 12 points.

Givens scored 22 for Weatherford before fouling out late.

The ninth-ranked Lady Eagles, who fell to 14-3, saw Payton Mills score 12.

KHS moved to 14-3 and is ranked sixth in 4A.

The Lady Jackets got 5 points from Reese Roof and a combined 5 points from Lily Voth and Kendall Farrar off the bench.
