Raiders claim 2 consolation victories
After letting a big lead slip away to open its regional, Lomega didn’t let history repeat itself.
The Raiders garnered first half leads on Mulhall- Orlando and Carney over the weekend and now find themselves back in the area tournament.
The Raiders clinched their reservation for Henryetta by downing Carney 58-45 on Saturday afternoon in a regional consolation championship game at Dover.
After a sluggish shooting start by both teams, Lomega led 13-7 after a quarter and extended its lead to 13 points by halftime.
The Raiders had led Cimarron by 15 points at the break in last Tuesday’s regional semifinal, but ultimately suffered a 46-41 defeat.
Carney didn’t duplicate it as Lomega pushed its lead to 19 points entering the fourth quarter.
Jaxson Snowden played a major role in the win as he poured in 24 points, almost all of it in the paint.
Lance Yost made three 3-pointers and scored 15.
Those two also led the way in Friday’s 60-48 win over M-O in an elimination game.
Yost scored 23 in that victory and this time made four 3-pointers.
Snowden added 17. The Raiders were up 14 at the half and again pushed it to 19 entering the fourth.
The Raiders also got solid scoring from Traevon Smith-Dunn off the bench. He scored 9 against the Panthers and 8 against Carney.
Lomega takes an 18-10 record into area. The Raiders play Smithville at 7 p.m. Thursday and need three wins to advance to the state tournament.
