Okarche boys roll past A-B, 90-33
The top-ranked team in Class A will very likely be tested in the playoffs.
It just hasn’t happened yet.
The latest blowout victim was No. 17 Arapaho- Butler, which was demolished 90-33 in a regional championship Saturday in Okarche.
That puts the two-time defending state champs within one win of a fourth consecutive trip to the state tournament.
The Indians hung with Okarche for the better part of a quarter, but the Warriors closed it with an 11-2 run that extended to 25-3 overall.
The once-close game turned into a 51-24 margin by halftime.
It didn’t get any better for the visitors in the second half.
They actually shot 53 percent in the first half, but took just 20 field goals. It was down to 14 in the second half…and they made only two.
For the game, Arapaho shot 38.2 percent and committed 32 turnovers. Okarche turned them into 44 points while shooting better than 51 percent for the game.
That included 10 3-pointers, four of which were drained by Ethan Kirby.
He scored 16 points. Jett Mueggenborg knocked down two of them as part of his gamehigh 31 points. He also had 7 rebounds.
Easton Roby chipped in 9 points.
The Indians didn’t have a single player reach double-digit scoring.
Perhaps that challenge will come for Okarche in the area championship.
The Warriors play No. 10 Waukomis at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Enid High School.
The Chiefs thumped No. 6 Riverfield 68-51 Saturday in a regional championship and are 24-1.
They’ve won 24 straight games since losing their season opener at home to Class B-II’s No. 1 Dover, but also avenged that loss to the Longhorns last month.
