3 Wildcat lifters qualify for state meet
Three Cashion High School powerlifters will compete against the rest of the best in the state this week.
Junior Makayla Hines, sophomore Khloe Kastner and freshman Brynn Geisinger have qualified for the Oklahoma Girls Powerlifting Coaches Association state meet.
The trio qualified with their performances at the small-school (Class 2A and below) north regional held Feb. 23 in Fairview.
Both Hines and Kastner are now two-time state qualifiers.
Hines was the regional champ at 105 pounds.
She placed first in squat (210 pounds), first in bench (105 pounds) and third in the deadlift (210 pounds) for a total of 525 pounds, 50 more pounds than the regional runner-up.
Kastner was the regional runner-up at 123 pounds.
She competed there just two days after winning three gold medals at the state indoor track meet (see related story).
Kastner was second in both the bench (125) and deadlift (275). Although she didn’t earn points in the squat, she lifted 215 for a total of 615 pounds.
Geisinger qualified at 143 pounds as she placed eighth in the regional with her lifts of 215 in the squat, 95 in the bench and 230 in the dead, a total of 540.
The Cashion trio is coached by Drew Elerick, Stuart Purintun and Tatum Robertson.
The state meet begins Monday, March 2, at the Choctaw Event Center in Durant.
