Lady Raiders’ playoff domination continues

There was no area heartbreak this time.

One year removed from back-to-back losses at the area tournament ending the Lady Raiders’ state tournament streak, the top-ranked team in Class B-II didn’t put itself in that position again.

Lomega put the hammer down on No. 6 Smithville with an 83-26 victory in an area championship game at Henryetta.

That landed Lomega back at the state tournament for the 38th time in the program’s history.

The Lady Raiders were in the same position a year ago, but lost back-toback games to Arnett and Leedey, putting an end to six straight appearances at state.

Nursing an injured knee last year, Reagan Snowden’s availability was limited.

This time around, she led a contingent of 12 different Lady Raiders who scored.

Snowden got to work early as she scored 8 points in a first quarter that saw her team get out to a 21-8 advantage.

The lead just continued to swell.

Jenny Peñaran helped add to it with three second- quarter 3-pointers.

The advantage was 4614 by halftime.

Peñaran made four of Lomega’s eight treys in the game and scored 13 points.

Snowden finished with 16 and senior Kinsley Fisher scored 10.

Bree Yost added 8 as Lomega improved its record to 27-1 with its 15th straight win.

The Lady Raiders are looking to add to their record 16 state titles.

In four playoff games to date, Lomega is outscoring foes by an average of more than 67 points.

The Lady Raiders have given up a total of 87 points in those games. Conversely, they’ve scored at least 87 points in all but one of them.
