Millwood’s defense stifl ed Hennessey enough to claim a regional championship.

The seventh-ranked Lady Falcons allowed single digits in three of the quarters Saturday to claim a 3A regional title 49-29 against Hennessey.

The Lady Eagles aren’t out of it, though.

They still move on to this week’s area tournament at Prague, but need to win three games to advance to state for the first time since 2014.

The first step is 6 p.m. Thursday against No. 13 Bethel.

Millwood held Hennessey to five field goals in the first half.

Up 9-7 after a quarter, the Lady Falcons went on a 21-6 run in the second.

That included 7 points from Madison Pressley in the frame. She made three of Millwood’s five first-half 3-pointers and eventually led three Lady Falcons in double figures with 15 points.

Clare Munroe scored 6 for Hennessey in the third quarter, the Lady Eagles’ best on offense with 11 points as a team. However, they only cut their deficit by 1 point.

Munroe scored 12 to lead Hennessey, which is ranked 11th in 3A and dropped its record to 216. Star Torres and Emma Copeland each scored 6 points.
