Cashion remains in 2A hunt
Cashion is two steps away from the state tournament after thumping Christian Heritage Academy on Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats’ 60-36 win in the 2A area consolation quarterfinal at Bridge Creek advanced them to play Watonga in Friday’s semifinal (after press time).
Cashion beat Watonga 47-43 in a home district game to start the playoffs and the Lady Eagles have since won four straight elimination games.
CHA got a big dose of Brooke Shafer and had no answer.
Shafer poured in 28 points to lead a trio of Cashion players in double figures.
Cashion was up 13 at the half when it outscored CHA 20-4 in the third.
Shafer scored 14 of those points, including going 10 of 11 from the free throw line. She was 12 of 13 for the game from the charity stripe.
Cashion also got 10 points from Kate Nabavi, eight of which came in the first quarter as part of a 16-5 run.
Jaylee Harp also scored 10.
Wildcats thump Minco The rubber match goes to Cashion.
The Wildcats and Minco split a pair of games during the regular season, but Cashion was dominant in a 75-46 playoff victory on Thursday.
The win in the 2A area consolation quarterfinals moved the Wildcats into Friday afternoon’s game with Christian Heritage Academy at Bridge Creek. Cashion needs two wins to advance to a second straight state tournament.
A balanced scoring attack doomed Minco as four Cashion players reached double figures.
Parker Mitchell did damage early as he scored 15 in the first half as Cashion built up a 16-point lead.
Kyle Yowell nailed three treys and scored 11 in the third quarter as Cashion put the game away with a 22-7 run.
Thesteadyhandthroughout was Grayson Little.
He had at least two field goals in every quarter and scored a game-high 23.
Mitchell finished with 18 and Yowell scored 16. King Underwood finished with 10 points.
