Dover’s Buck named Skeltur MVP; 3 others join him on all-conference
BASKETBALL POSTSEASON HONORS
Team success has led to individual honors for a quartet of Dover Longhorns basketball players.
Casen Buck was named the Player of the Year in the Skeltur Conference, it was announced last week after a vote of the coaches.
Buck was joined on the all-conference team by fellow Longhorns Daxx Compton, A.J. Avila and Kyler Williams.
That group helped Dover win the conference’s regular season championship and, ultimately, the program’s first ever state title.
The Longhorns went 7-0 in conference games.
They also finished as the conference tournament runner-up to Waukomis.
The Chiefs’ loss to Dover in the regular season was their only one of the regular season before they qualified for the Class A state tournament.
A junior, Buck averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 steals a game.
He led Dover to a 30-2 overall record that culminated with a 49-26 victory over Duke in the Class B-II state championship game.
Compton was named the MVP of the state tournament by several publications.
The sophomore averaged 15.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.7 steals.
Williams and Avila are also sophomores.
Williams scored 7.8 points and grabbed 2.8 rebounds a contest while Avila contributed 6.4 points and 4.3 rebounds.
Dover’s girls had three players earn all-conference honorable mention: Presley Squires, Emerson Belt and Remi Goodwin.
( Note: More postseason honors will be included in our weekend edition, including those for the Cherokee Strip Conference and Western Athletic Conference.)
