‘It’s been an honor’
Lomega seeks replacement as Edsall steps away from boys basketball coach position
Lomega’s search for its next boys basketball coach is ongoing, but Superintendent Cory Wilson said he hopes to have the process wrapped up soon.
Wilson is seeking a replacement for Justin Edsall, who resigned the position earlier this month after completing his 14th season.
“My daughters are in fourth and first grade,” Edsall said. “I’m just stepping down from basketball to spend more time with family.
“I’m excited to spend more after-school times watching them play and do their activities.”
The Raiders were 18-11 this season and advanced to the Class B-II area tournament.
Lomega has advanced to at least the area tournament in eight of the last 10 seasons under Edsall, including reaching state in 2021.
Edsall returned to his alma mater in 2012 after spending five years at Mulhall-Orlando. He was an assistant there for two years before spending three as the head coach.
“It’s been an honor to coach basketball at Lomega and I’m so thankful for all the players I’ve been blessed to be around,” Edsall said.
He’s not done coaching at Lomega, however.
Edsall will remain in his roles as a seventh and eighth grade science teacher, financial literacy teacher and as the track and cross country coach.
Wilson began interviewing candidates this week and those interviews will continue throughout the week.
He said he hopes he can present a candidate to the board of education at its next meeting, which is April 13.
“That’s what I’m aiming for,” Wilson said. “We hope to get the interviews wrapped up and have someone to present to the board and get them ready to take over.”
