County teams still battling in state baseball tournaments

Both Kingfisher County teams remained in the hunt going into the third day of the OK Kids 12-under state baseball tournament.

The Kingfisher Jackets and Hennessey Eagles both played elimination games at 3 p.m. Friday in Weatherford (after press time of this edition).

After the tournament was delayed a day due to weather, Kingfisher opened up Wednesday with a 12-2 victory over Clinton in the Blue Bracket.

They returend Thursday and were dealt a 13-6 loss by Pauls Valley.

Kingfisher took on the Blanchard Recruits in Friday’s consolation game. If they won, they played at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Hennessey took a bit of a different route to the third day.

The Eagles lost their opener, 3-2, against Elgin in the Red Bracket.

They battled back Thursday to eliminate the Blanchard Icons 6-2 to remain alive in the bracket.

Hennessey was set to take on Weatherford on Friday afternoon. A win would advance Hennessey into Saturday.

Further west, the Kingfisher Cubs began their 8U state tournament on Thursday.

They were defeated 8-5 by Altus, sending them to the consolation bracket on Friday against the Sulphur Bandits.

The 10U state tournament in Sallisaw began Tuesday.

The Kingfisher Spikes lost their Red Bracket opener 13-2 to the Sallisaw Cardinals, the team that eventually won the bracket.

The Spikes rallied on Wednesday to defeat the Gore Pirates 4-1, but were eliminiated on Thursday with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Navajo.
