As far as the regular season goes, last Friday night may very well have been the biggest win of the Taylor Young era.Kingfisher stunned Class 4A’s third-ranked Anadarko 38-34 to reintroduce itself as a serious player in the class.

The Friday night trip to Anadarko had the makings of being an unkind one for Kingfisher.The sixth-ranked Warriors were playing in front of a homecoming crowd and among their wins was a nine-point triumph over Newcastle.

It appears Kingfisher’s wrestling program continues to trend in the right direction.The Yellowjackets took third place in the Western Conference Tournament held Friday and Saturday at the APB.“That’s our highest placing in almost 10 years,” noted coach Steven Wilson.

Hennessey squeezed in a pair of games early in the week as part of a busy stretch.The Eagles topped Harding Fine Arts 49-34 on the road Monday in a makeup game.They hit the road again Tuesday and came back from Watonga with a 79-30 victory.

KHS girls took on Marlow and Clinton in duals Thursday as well, though several of the matches were exhibition.Against Clinton, Rylee Hamil grabbed a 7-4 victory.Serenity Starr, Zoey Padilla, Delissa Evans and Mylene Jones all grabbed first-period wins.

The shots weren’t falling with much frequency for the Kingfisher girls basketball team on Tuesday.Fortunately, the frequency in which they dropped for the home team was much less.Newcastle had just four field goals the entire game as KHS prevailed 26-14 in a Western Athletic Conference road game.

Kingfisher wrestling picked up a win and two losses in duals leading up to a big weekend tournament.The Jackets downed Casady 45-24 on the road Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.They returned home Thursday and suffered a 60-12 loss to Class 3A’s second-ranked Marlow and 48-20 to 4A Clinton.

Although the weather will be improved later this week, it’s still going to be cold outside.Kingfisher County will feature a couple of warm, indoor options for basketball fans beginning Thursday.

A bid for the consolation championship fell short Saturday.Kingfisher couldn’t keep the momentum going from its second win of the season in a 50-37 defeat to Cushing in the fifth-place game of the Wheat Capital Tournament at Chisholm.

Cashion got the regular season matchup.Oklahoma Bible Academy got the conference tournament championship.
