Yellowjacket golfers prep for playoff run

Kingfisher on Monday got what it hopes is the first of two trips to Boiling Springs Golf Course.The Yellowjackets’ golf team took second place in the Woodward High School Boys Golf Invitational.KHS shot a 354 to finish four strokes behind the host school.

Baseball, softball districts this week

Dover and Okarche will host baseball district tournaments this week.The OSSAA announced district assignments recently for Classes A and B.Dover was tabbed as a host site and will be joined by Okeene and Verden.Also in Class B, Lomega will travel to Lookeba-Sickles.

Elk City dominated the Western Conference Tennis Tournaments last week, but the Kingfisher High School boys held their own.KHS got at least a fourthplace finish in each of the four brackets Monday to bring home the conference runner-up trophy from Earlywine Tennis Center.

The balance of Kingfisher High School’s basketball team has been evident in the number of different players to receive postseason honors.The latest is junior Xavier Ridenour who earlier this week was named the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association District 1 Player of the Year.

Ryder Cowan repeated as the medalist and Heritage Hall claimed the team title in a packed field Wednesday at the Kingfisher Large School Golf Invitational.

A handful of senior basketball players from Kingfisher County were recently recognized for their excellence off the court.Five local players were named Academic All-State by the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association.

Braxton Mecklenburg had a nice, easy day at the track last week.The Kingfisher High School senior attempted only two jumps, but one was good enough to win the boys’ high jump during the 11th annual Kingfisher High School Track and Field Invitational last Friday.
