Kellen Smith struck it rich against Merritt on homecoming.The Cashion quarterback threw five touchdowns as the Wildcats blew out the Oilers 35-12 in their District A-1 opener.Four of Smith’s TDs came in the first quarter as Cashion staked a 27-0 lead and was never threatened.

Victory was imminent…until it wasn’t.Pauls Valley scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to spoil Kingfisher’s upset bid with a 43-40 victory at home.

A new location didn’t mean a different result in the Kingfisher Invitational Cross Country Meet.The Kingfisher High School girls once again claimed the team title of their home meet, edging runner-up Hennessey by six points.

Hennessey’s Junior High fast pitch team ended their 2024 season with an 18-6 record. “This group of girls hit the ground running in July and never looked back,” said head coach Lisa Bossa. “I am so proud of their effort.

Going into his team’s Week 3 contest, Kingfisher head football coach Reagan Roof said if the Yellowjackets didn’t show up ready to play, they very well could enter district play with an 0-3 record.Turns out he had his team quite prepared.

Despite three of the top four-ranked teams not taking part and with the temperatures inching toward triple digits, Kingfisher was still able to make a statement at the Pre-State Cross Country Meet.

Shrugging off a slow start, Kingfisher closed strong Monday to win its final district softball game of the season.The Lady Jackets fell behind early, but came back to thump Mount St. Mary 12-2 in six innings on “senior night.”KHS completed its District 3A-1 record with a 6-6 record.

STATE BOUND – Kingfisher cheer was the runner-up last week at its Class 4A regional in Chickasha. That qualified the team for this weekend’s state competition in Tulsa.
