KPS waits to approve estimate of needs

For the second straight year, Kingfisher Public Schools’ board of education has delayed approving an estimate of needs.Though somewhat related, the reasons behind this year’s move differ from that of 2024.

From stock contractor to contestants, Kingfisher Rodeo full of local talent

The 68th annual Kingfisher Rodeo will be held this weekend at the Kingfi sher Roundup Club.Events begin at 8 p.m. each night, with a pre-show at 7:45 p.m.The rodeo is sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) and the Kansas Professional Rodeo Association (KPRA).

LAWSON GEHEB and the Okarche Lady Warriors joined much of the rest of the state Monday in starting their respective fall seasons. The Lady Warriors downed Amber- Pocasset 6-1 at home to begin the 2025 fast-pitch softball campaign.

Dover’s Ingle family visits grave of Kingfisher namesake in Nebraska

The Ingle family of Dover headed north for vacation last week and, along the way, visited the gravesite of the namesake of Kingfisher.The city of Kingfisher was named for pre-Land Run frontiersman King David Fisher (1812-1871).He is buried on private land near Hebron, Neb.

Mass of Christian Burial for Phyllis Shimanek, 84, was Saturday Aug. 9, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hennessey officiated by Rev. John Herrera.Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Judges deemed Mike Gore’s 1939 Panel truck (top left) as Best of Show at last weekend’s Kool Cars & Chrome Show hosted by the Kingfi sher Chamber of Commerce. There were 113 entries this year, the most ever for the event. Ed Thiems’ Ford F100 (top right) won the award for Best Engine.
