3 things to know as 2020 election challenge moves to Congress

After their party’s presidential nominee lost in the Electoral College, some House members lined up to object to and challenge the results during the Jan. 6 joint session of Congress to count the electoral votes. House Democrats made 11 objections.

Kingfisher sees first sales tax increase in some time

Kingfisher saw a 2.1 % increase in its sales tax collections for December, according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission. It was the first increase compared to the same month a year earlier in several months. The lower checks are likely due to a drop-off in oilfield activity in the county.

OU plans virtual event

The University of Oklahoma will celebrate its December 2020 graduates in a virtual graduation ceremony. Graduates and their families, friends and the worldwide OU community are invited to gather online for the ceremony, which will be held starting at 7 p.m. CST Friday, Dec. 18, at link.ou.

Linda Dawkins

Linda Adell (Mead) Dawkins, 71, passed away Nov. 30, 2020, due to complications associated with COVID-19. She was born May 4, 1949, near Dover to Emmitt and Alice Mead. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Bonnie Price.

Joseph ‘Joe’ RomanNose

Joseph”Joe"RomanNose was born to Alfred “Lefty” RomanNose and Pauline Strong on Friday, Oct. 4, 1946. He died Dec. 12, 2020, in Oklahoma City at the age of 74.

Lawrence ‘Larry’ Kloeppel

Lawrence “Larry” Kloeppel, 90, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at Wildwood Senior Living in Joplin. Larry was born on June 25, 1930, in Hitchcock to John I. and Hilda A. (Strack) Kloeppel. Larry married “Bert” Oct. 25, 1952, in Oklahoma City.

Dwight Caldwell

Dwight Caldwell, 67, Dover, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2020. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Dover Elementary gymnasium.

Cashion gets another crack at title

Here we go again. This Saturday will be a familiar setting for the Cashion football program and its fans in more ways than one. The Wildcats play the final high school football game in Oklahoma in 2020 when they taken on Thomas at 7 p.m.

A Classic comeback for KHS

On-court adversity had yet to visit the Kingfisher girls basketball team through five games. It did in No. 6. But the Lady Jackets answered the call, dominated the second half and brought home the Compass Athletics Winter Basketball Classic championship.
