All is not lost for Lady Jackets

Gerrett Spears said there’s not an excuse for last week’s shocking loss to Elk City in the teams’ Class 4A district championship matchup. He also said there’s no reason to lose hope.

KHS soars past Elks; gets 45th straight win

Perhaps inspired by their girls’ team’s upset of Kingfisher, the Elk City boys were able to play within a couple of possessions of top-ranked Kingfisher for much of the first quarter. But then the teams had to play the rest of the first quarter. Then the second. And then the second half.

Hennessey claims 3A district title wins

Hennessey enters this week’s regional tournament thanks to a win last week over a familiar foe. The Lady Eagles defeated Harding Fine Arts for the third time this season, this time by a 65-39 margin at home Friday to win a Class 3A district championship. Hennessey will host Chisholm at 6:30 p.m.

ONE WIN AWAY

New Lima had one big upset notched on its belt. Lomega made sure it didn’t get another. The Raiders put themselves within one win of the Class B state tournament Saturday by knocking off New Lima 57-43 in their regional championship at Cashion. The No.

Short-handed Lady Warriors win again

As injuries continue to pile up, the remaining Okarche Lady Warriors have to continue to step up. So far, so good. The fourth-ranked Lady Warriors are just one win shy of returning to the state tournament after claiming a 42-39 win over No.

HAMMON UPSET DENIED

There are Lomega teams from the past that coach Kevin Lewallen knows couldn’t have handled how last Saturday’s regional championship game played out. But this team…this team could.

NO WORRIES

Even down at halftime, John Hardaway wasn’t worried about his team. The Cashion Wildcats rewarded their coach’s faith with a dominant third quarter en route to a 59-45 victory Saturday against Rush Springs at Hinton.

Okarche boys see season end at area

Short-handed and almost one-handed in one case, the Okarche Warriors saw their 2019-20 campaign come to a close Saturday. Okarche overcame a slow start, but couldn’t completely overcome the Crowder Demons in a 68-57 defeat in their Class A regional consolation championship game at Moss.

Hammon drops Dover boys at regional, 81-43

Good luck for Lomega proved to be bad luck for the Dover Longhorns. When New Lima upset No. 8 Hammon in the first round of the Class B regional last Thursday, it gave the Raiders - on paper - an easier path to the regional championship.
