When Abby Richter Coleman and her new husband Shawn traveled more than 3,500 miles to remote Alaska for their wedding trip, the last thing they expected was a reminder of her hometown of Kingfisher. But when they visited the Iditarod Trail Race headquarters in Wasilla, they learned that Joe Redington Sr., the father of the famous race, was born in Kingfisher.
