Eagles soar high at Skordle Festival

Hennessey boys knock off Minco in Enid; Lady Eagles start strong before falling

Hennessey got one of its best performances of the season Saturday and beat a ranked team for the first time since its season opener.

Three Eagles scored in double figures as they toppled 2A’s 17th-ranked Minco 56-34 at the Skordle Basketball Festival at Enid High School.

The Bulldogs never could get on track offensively as they were limited to single digits in every quarter.

That allowed Hennessey to steadily build its big lead.

The Eagles were up 15-8 after a quarter and led by 12 at halftime.

Jael Torres scored 13 in the first half and ended his night with a game-high 18.

James Sims and Layton Choate scored 11 points apiece.

It was Hennessey’s second victory in as many days as the Eagles won 65-45 at Harding Fine Arts the night before.

Again they had a strong first half as they posted 45 points and led by 23.

Torres scored 21 to lead the way.

Choate added 13 and Timmie Perry 11.

The Eagles ended the weekend with a 10-7 record.

Lady Eagles snap skid

Harding Fine Arts spelled relief for the Hennessey girls basketball team.

The Lady Eagles were able to snap a six-game losing streak with a 52-9 win at Harding on Friday.

Hennessey hadn’t been able to score more than 38 in a game since early January, but got there during the third quarter in this win.

That quarter saw Hennessey go on a 20-6 run,

It came after the Lady Eagles opened up a 19-0 lead in the first quarter and pushed it to 27-3 by halftime.

Julianna Macy and Kadee Meeker scored 10 points apiece for Hennessey. the Skordle Basketball Festival at Enid High School.

The Lady Eagles carried the momentum over early, but couldn’t keep it in a 51-34 loss to Minco.

Hennessey led 14-9 after a quarter.

But, Minco outscored the Lady Eagles 28-10 over the next two quarters to wrestle control of the game.

Kassidy Amburn scored 18 points to pace Hennessey, which ended the weekend with a 5-11 overall record.
