It wasn’t so much that Kingfisher lost its softball season opener on Monday.

It was how it went down for the Lady Jackets.

Enid spoiled the start of the KHS season by taking home a 6-0 victory from the Lady Jackets in what was also the debut of new head coach Tiffany Goodwin.

“They’re a good team,” said Goodwin of the Class 6A Pacers who return several key contributors from a squad that was 32-8 a season ago.

“They’re just not six runs better than us.”

Half of the visitors’ runs were unearned as KHS committed three errors, all of which led to Enid’s total.

That included the first inning when a throwing error allowed Enid to put the first run on the board.

A leadoff error in the third inning set up another run as Palmer Pasby’s double helped capitalize on it for a 2-0 lead.

Enid then put the game away with three more runs in the top of the fifth inning.

It spoiled the return of junior Lily Voth, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL.

Voth scattered nine hits and struck out four while only walking one batter.

Only three of her runs over the seven innings were earned.

But she couldn’t get any run support as KHS managed just three hits.

Gracie Combrink got the win as she pitched the first four innings, surrendered those three hits and struck out six.

Laura Uhrmacher pitched a hitless three innings in relief.

Addison Johnson got a one-out double in the bottom of the second inning, but that was sandwiched by three Lady Jacket strikeouts to squash that threat.

Liliana Garramone led off the third with a slap single, but was unable to advance as KHS followed with three consecutive flyouts.

Kendall Farrar had Kingfisher’s only other hit, a bloop single in the first.

Farrar did help minimize the damage with her arm.

The junior centerfielder had two putouts at home plate in the latter innings.

The Lady Jackets returned to the diamond on Tuesday night when they hosted Bethany in a district matchup.
