When the Kingfisher High School basketball team tipped off its 2000-01 season, all eyes were on Jeff Johnson and Heath Myers, two guards who were expected to lead the team to whatever destiny awaited.

After the first game, an impressive win over Northwest Classen, Jacket fans realized they had another weapon - a skinny sophomore named Charles Ramsdell.

In his varsity debut, the then 6-7 Ramsdell scored 16 points, grabbed 13 rebounds , blocked six shots and altered at least that many more.

From that point, although he was young, Ramsdell became counted on to be a force inside for the Jackets.

Eight months later, Ramsdell is still skinny, but he’s two inches taller and a considerably better basketball player.

He’s spent the summer preparing for that fact as part of the Athletes First Foundation 16-and-under AAU team. Ramsdell has traveled the country playing with the best male talent his age in the state and against the best the nation has to offer.

Entering his sophomore year, Ramsdell was an unknown commodity. Going into his junior campaign, he’ll be a target. (KT&FP Aug. 15, 2001)
