KINGFISHER MEMORIAL

KINGFISHER MEMORIAL Library’s summer reading program takes off with a bang this week, and with an ambitious daily schedule of activities for the next two months that allows parents and kids to pick and choose their attendance days. Children’s librarian Audrey Sanders, right, spent some time coloring with Brinley Payne on the first day of “Fantasy and Fairytale Week” Monday. The overall theme of “Tails and Tales” is divided into themed weeks with different activities scheduled each day. 45-minute sessions for each age group are held daily, and parents can choose any (or every) day for their children’s attendance. The schedule for Monday-Thursday is: 10 a.m. 1-year-old -Kindergarten; 11 a.m. first and second grade; 1 p.m. third and fourth grade; 2 p.m. tweens and teens. Themes for the remaining weeks (with different variations each day) are Jungle Animals, Forest Animals, Under the Sea, Arctic Animals, On the Farm and My Pet. Fridays are free movie days at 1 p.m. and movies planned include “Adventures of Rufus The Magic Pet,” “Zootopia,” “Open Season,” “Finding Dory,” “Arctic Dogs,” “Ferdinand,” and “The Secret Life of Pets.” No activities are held the week before July 4 and the library is closed on the following Monday, July 5. Complete printed schedules are available at the library. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
