Read moreAndrew Martin, center, senior vice president of author coaching for Cedar Gate, a publishing company owned by Brian and Marla Hill, was the guest speaker of the Kingfisher Rotary Club last Tuesday. Also pictured is Kingfisher Rotarian Darcy Reherman, left, who arranged for the presentation, and Kingfisher Rotary President Mike Myers, right. Martin, who was raised in the Texas panhandle and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, resides in Kingfisher with his wife and children. He has ghost written several books, which he explained as helping people to put their thoughts down on paper and then working with the person to form it into a published book. He said he has ghost written for Wayman Tisdale’s mother and he said he is also working with former University of Oklahoma football All-Americans and professionals Roy Williams and Curtis Lofton, a Kingfisher High School graduate. He said he also works on “legacy projects” in which people put their thoughts and history down on paper, so that this may be passed along to grandchildren and great-grandchildren after their passing. “My goal is to facilitate the process to such a degree that my imprint is not on the finished product,” he said. “It should be as if I had no input and the message is solely that of the person who is telling the life story.” [KT&FP Staff Photo]

Read moreThe home of Brice and Laura (Spurrier) Moulton and their three children, at 406 N. Cheyenne, Hennessey, was destroyed in a Tuesday afternoon fire. Assistant Hennessey Fire Chief James Matousek said the front and side walls are about all that’s left standing of the structure after 11 firefighters and five vehicles responded to the call shortly before 1 p.m. Only one family member was home, a sixth grade daughter, who was alerted to the fire by the family dogs and escaped without injury, Matousek said. The cause of the fire has not been determined but Matousek said “a hot spot was on the west wall in the kitchen and utility room.” See the full story online at kingfisherpress.net. Read moreA line of violent storms moving rapidly from west to east Monday afternoon brought a flood of storm chasers into the county, but local amateur photographers also captured some dramatic images. At top left, Amanda Wiggins stopped on the Dover-Loyal blacktop to capture the massive front, with rain visible in the distance. At top right, Tyrel McLane caught a funnel lowering in the Loyal-Omega area in this photo shot from his truck on S.H. 33 at County Road NS 2920. Zach Kuehn caught a different angle of the funnel cloud (bottom right) from a wellsite five miles west of the Loyal grain elevator. Taylor Jennings stopped to capture a panoramic shot (bottom left) from Victory Lane and County Road NS 2830 south of Kingfisher. Camilla Sample holds a handful of hailstones that trailed the storm front, falling mostly in the southern part of the county (center left). Tammy Robbins’ photo of her hailstone-covered yard west of Okarche shows the aftermath of the storm. See related story on Page 14 and more local storm photos and videos on the KT&FP Facebook page.
