The Flight defeated San Antonio Hoops Elite on Sunday to win the fourth grade girls MAYB Division II national championship at the Young Family Athletic Center in Norman. The Flight had two players from Kingfisher who contributed to the championship. Braylee Wittrock (back row, second from right) is the daughter of Brad and Starla Wittrock. Pressley Page (front row, #10) is the daughter of Brady and Lindsey Page. The Flight went 6-1 in the tournament. The lone loss was 26-23 to Hoops Elite in pool play before Flight avenged it in the championship. The team also beat Texas Heat 16-10 in the semifinals.

The Oklahoma Coaches Association hosted its annual coaches’ clinic and All-State Games in the Tulsa area last week. That included the girls basketball games last Tuesday and the boys basketball games on Wednesday. Three of the four games had some Kingfi sher County flavor. Cashion girls coach Andrea Taylor was the coach of the Small West team which defeated the Small East 69-58. Taylor is pictured in the top left photo with her daughter Kaitin (left) and husband LT. Pictured on the bottom right is Kingfisher’s Raegan Snider, who played for the Large West. Snider scored four points, but her team was defeated 78-61 by the Large East. Cashion’s John Hardaway did his share of coaching against Okarche’s Hunter Mueggenborg the last four years. This time, Mueggenborg was on Hardaway’s team as their Small West squad downed the Small East 107-93 in a shootout. Mueggenborg, pictured on the bottom left along with his Okarche coach Aaron West, scored six points to go with four assists, three steals and a pair of rebounds. Kingfisher’s Ian Daugherty has more baseball to play. The former Yellowjacket All-State selection and Oklahoma State University Cowboy catcher signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Minnesota Twins organization. The announcement came Monday evening at the conclusion of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft. Daugherty just wrapped up his Cowboy baseball career, which concluded with a senior season that saw him bat .258 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs. Daugherty was the winning pitcher in 2019 when KHS won its first-ever baseball state tournament game. A sophomore, he was 10-0 that season with a 0.57 ERA. He missed out on his junior season due to COVID, but came back to bat .465 with seven home runs to lead the Jackets back to the 4A state tournament as a senior. He was 6-1 as a starting pitcher, but played 125 innings behind home plate and threw out 12 of 19 would-be base stealers. A 2021 class valedictorian, Daugherty was also a starter on the Jackets’ 4A state basketball championship team as a senior. His career at OSU saw him play in 137 games, starting in 107 of them. He hit for a .263 average, had 18 home runs, 73 runs scored and 68 RBIs. He’ll fly to Fort Myers, Fla., the Twins’ spring training home, this weekend and will soon start playing in the Rookie League.
