Sts. P&P Altar Society covers busy agenda in April meeting

By

The Sts. Peter and Paul Altar Society met in the Annex at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3.

The meeting was called to order by President Irene Garrett. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the opening prayer was led by Vice President Barbara Rice.

Cindy Wilczek, secretary, read the minutes and they were approved. Treasurer Brenda Walta gave the treasurer’s report.

Thank you’s were extended to Judy Grellner, Marcia Dunn, Cynthia Eaton, Francene Eaton, Irene Garrett, and all others who assisted with the Confirmation Mass and Dinner held on Sunday, March 24. Approximately 450 parishioners were served.

The “Sanctity of Life” campaign is concluding and has been successful. The group recognized the students of Sts. Peter and Paul School for hosting their March Dress Down Day to benefit the drive.

It was voted to donate monetarily to Catholic Charities’ Adoption and Pregnancy Services and to donate the blankets, diapers, wipes, and clothing to Birth Choice of El Reno (now known as “Love for the Children”) for its support of women with crisis pregnancies.

Due to the response to the program, it was decided to make the campaign an annual event during the Lenten season.

Ann Finley updated the ladies on the upcoming Internet Safety Program to be held in Ross Hall at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 8.

Capt. Adam Flowers of the Canadian County Sheriff’s Department will be educating parents and grandparents on internet predators and the dangers on the worldwide web.

The Altar Society is presenting the program in cooperation with the Kingfisher Community Collaborative. All members were encouraged to attend this informative program. The Altar Society will provide refreshments.

In response to a request for financial support from the Center of Family Love, the ladies voted to donate $1,000 to the center to be used for client support.

In anticipation of the completion of the new Parish Hall, there was discussion concerning furnishings for the new kitchen. It was suggested the group purchase shelving for the pantry and a warming oven for use with funeral dinners.

All other appliances purchased have been donated. The group approved these purchases and also gave permission for the executive committee to make other purchases as necessary over the summer recess as the building is completed.

Francene Eaton suggested the group form a committee to research and start a college scholarship program to reward those students who serve faithfully in the parish. It was decided to table this until September when the group resumes meeting and appoint a committee at that time to develop criteria for applications.

The group will carry out a service project at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Cimarron Nursing Center.

Its next meeting is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, in Eaton’s home. Current officers will serve as hostesses.
