Bobby S. Carter, 79, of Hammon, went to walk the golden streets of heaven on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at Homestead Assisted Living in Elk City.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 28, at First Baptist Church, Hammon. Rev. Scott Showers officiated and Rev. David Flick assisted.

Interment followed at Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon.

Services were under the direction of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City.

Bob was born March 6, 1942, in Moorewood, the son of Ewing and Elsie Irene (Gray) Carter.

He graduated from Hammon High School in 1960.

Bobby married, Mary John Flick, whom he considered the love of his life, on June 23, 1962, in Hammon.

He coached and taught at Tyrone Public Schools for three years, then at Okarche Public Schools for 15 years.

His 1978 boys basketball team at Okarche was the Class A state runner-up and the 1979 team was the state champion.

He then coached at Cheyenne Public Schools for 10 years and Corn Bible Academy for two years.

Bobby retired in 1999.

He loved to watch sports, his grandchildren and their activities.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hammon.

Cherishing his memory is his loving wife of 59 years, Mary John Carter of the home; two sons, John David Carter and wife Marcia of Claremore and Jesse Dean Carter and wife Wendi of Okarche; one daughter, Joy Dyan Harrison and husband Kevin of Perryton, Texas; nine grandchildren, Kelin Harrison, Keeley Dewitt and husband Austin of Perryton, Texas, Kaydee Harrison of Perryton, Texas, Kayla Wells and husband Eric of Claremore, Jesse Carter and his wife Parker of Verdigris, Jason Carter of Claremore, Felipe Zanolli of Dallas, Texas, Wyatt Carter and wife Kimberly of Piedmont and Weston Carter and wife Allie of Oklahoma City; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Wanda June Carter.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church in Hammon in care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 707, Elk City, OK 73648.
