Ernestine Ethel Payne peacefully passed away in Crescent with her son and daughter-in-law at her side on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at the age of 82 and after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Ernestine was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Kingfisher to Erny and Ethel Ellyson.

Ernestine graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1958.

After graduation, she attended Draughon’s Business School in Oklahoma City.

Ernestine married her first husband, Jimmie Joe Dunn, on July 8, 1960, and together, they had two children, Deanna and Jim Bob.

The family resided in Edmond.

Ernestine then married Ernie Payne on December 11, 1987.

Ernestine worked at Central State College and was a longtime employee of TG&Y and ACP Sheetmetal.

Ernestine was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and classmates. She enjoyed traveling with Irene Dunn, Pat, Joe and Jim Bob.

She also enjoyed watching her granddaughters, Cherokee and Braiden, play basketball.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jimmie Joe Dunn; her second husband, Ernie Payne.

She is survived by her sister Pat Pursell (Joe); sisters-in-law Alice and Marilyn Price (Glen); daughter Deanne Case (Jim); son Jim Bob Dunn (Shannon); grandsons Jacob Case (Maegan) and Mark Wilson (Jaynann); granddaughters Samantha Case, Cherokee Donaldson (Billy) and Braiden Garcia (Tylor); great-grandsons Ruger, Dawson and Bridger; great-granddaughters Lacey, Abigail and Tilley Joe; and many other family members and friends.

She will be deeply missed by her friends, family and all who knew her.

The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care provided by Amy, Macey and Companion Hospice.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3.

The funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the Kingfisher Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
