Ervin Frank Young was born to Roy Alonzo Young and Opal Erie Doss on Dec. 1, 1935, in Elk City.

He was raised in the Erick and Sayre area.

Ervin attended school in Erick where he graduated high school in 1955. He attended college in Stillwater for a year then transferred to school in Weatherford. Growing up, Ervin worked in the cotton gin and on the farm.

He was drafted into the Army in 1958 and served two years, one year in Manheim, Germany.

Before going overseas, he wed Janet Honegger Young on Jan. 2, 1959. From this union three daughters were born: Elaine, Elise and Janiece.

After returning from Germany, they lived in Sayre and the Elk City area. While there, Ervin farmed and sold life insurance.

In 1962 he moved to Kingfisher and went into business farming with his father-in-law, Norbert.

They ran Honegger and Young feedlot for approximately 50 years in Dover. He continued raising wheat and triticale for the cow and calf operation.

Ervin was best known for his ornery personality and hard work ethic. He enjoyed giving everyone he knew and met a hard time.

Every chance he had to share a new joke with family and friends, he took it. He cherished time spent with his family and enjoyed snow skiing and riding dirt bikes in Red River, N.M.

He also dedicated many years supporting the 4-H and FFA programs in Kingfisher County.
