Evelyn Joyce (Unruh) Mulherin was born on Oct. 7, 1934, to Dedan and Marie (Nightingale) Unruh in Carnegie.

She passed away Feb. 22, 2022, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Hydro. She was 87.

Evelyn graduated from Alden School in 1953.

She married Donald Mulherin on March 4, 1954, at her parents’ home south of Carnegie.

They started a family in January 1955 and had one son and four daughters: Roland, Laura, Marilyn, Jane and Jan.

She worked at the Kingfisher and Thomas hospitals as a nurse’s aide. Later she worked at Corn Heritage Village in the dietary and laundry departments.

Evelyn was a seamstress. She made everything from pantsuits, dresses, long formal and wedding gowns to Barbie doll clothes.

Gardening was a big part of her life. Evelyn enjoyed fishing, camping and having fun with her three brothers and one sister at Cache Creek. She was an excellent cook and her pies and rolls were well known.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Mulherin; parents, Dedan and Marie Unruh; three brothers, Leland, Nolan and Arline Unruh; one sister, Helen Bamberg; son-in-law Duane Fike; and daughter-in-law Carolyn Mulherin.

She is survived by her five children, Roland Mulherin and Laura Fike, both of Kingfisher, Marilyn Simmons and husband Ray of Weatherford, Jane Constant and husband Dave of Brookings, S.D., and Jan Mulherin of Corn; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday, Feb. 28, at Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home Chapel in Carnegie. Interment followed at Greenfield Mennonite Cemetery in Carnegie.

Services were under the direction of Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home, Carnegie.
