Georgia Rother

Georgia Ann (Rund) Rother, 85, passed away Friday, July 22, in Ponca City, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born April 1, 1937, in Okarche to John and Georgia (Barrackman) Rund.

She grew up on Okarche and attended Holy Trinity Catholic School.

Upon graduation, Georgia worked in medical offices before marrying Lawrence Rother on Jan. 5, 1960.

From there, they lived in Luther and Okarche before settling at Union City where they raised their three girls, farmed and ranched.

Georgia loved to sew for the girls and others and was known for her amazing pies.

She also babysat numerous teachers’ children throughout the years.

Georgia belonged to various homemaker groups throughout the years and also was a member of Parish Council at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Union City.

After Lawrence’s death in 1994, Georgia moved to Tulsa for several years before returning to Yukon.

After nine years in Yukon, she moved to Ponca City before moving to Via Christi Assisted Living Center, where she spent the last five years of her life playing bingo, dominoes and enjoying time with her new friends there.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Rother; her parents John and Georgia Rund; her sister Christine Fitzgerald; and her brother John Mike Rund.

She is survived by her daughters Melisa Rice and husband Chris of Tecumseh, Melinda Allen and husband Aaron of Ponca City, Laura Westemeyer and husband Barry of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren Ashley Dixson and husband Marcus of Yukon, Christopher Ladd and wife Jody of Cushing, John Allen and wife LeeAnna of Ponca City, Larry Allen of Ponca City, and Lily Westemeyer, Joe Westemeyer, and Lucy Westemeyer, all of Iowa City.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren Blake and Jessi Shoemaker, Landon Kimmel, Lauren Kimmel, Lance Ladd and Jonesi Ladd of Cushing; John Allen and Landon Allen of Ponca City; and great-great-granddaughter Walker Shoemaker of Cushing.

She is also survived by her brother Matt Rund and his wife Carol of Orange Park, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Her memorial service will be at Trout Funeral Home in Ponca City at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 28, followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Okarche.

Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery, followed by a funeral dinner at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall.

Pallbearers are her nephews Scott Rund, Kevin Rund, Mark Fitzgerald, Steve Rother, Roy Wolf and Mike Baustert.

The family want to thank the nurses and assistants at Via Christi that helped make Georgia’s last few weeks very comfortable and pain free.
