Haden ‘Karcher’ Hobbs

Mass of Christian Burial for Haden “Karcher” Hobbs, 91, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stillwater officiated by Rev. Edward Menasco.

Cremation arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home. Karcher, of Stillwater, passed away early Sunday morning at his home on Oct. 23, 2022.

Karcher was born Aug. 7, 1931, at St Mary’s Hospital in Enid to Theron E. and Claudine Karcher Hobbs.

He attended Maple Grove School, a one-room classroom, until eighth grade.

Karcher graduated from Hennessey High School where he was very active in the FFA.

Following high school, he attended Oklahoma A & M University to pursue a degree in animal science.

Before finishing his degree, Karcher enlisted in the Air Force, but not before asking his first love and high school girlfriend Brownie to marry him.

Karcher and Brownie were married at F. E. Warren Air Force Base, where Karcher was stationed, in Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1952.

In 1953, Brownie joined Karcher at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii, for a short stay.

In 1954, they were relocated to Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth, Texas, where Brownie worked at the municipal hospital as an R.N.

It was during this time their first daughter Linda Lou was born.

From Ft. Worth, the family moved to Hennessey where their second daughter Ginger was born.

Karcher and Brownie then moved to Stillwater so Karcher could finish his degree at Oklahoma State University.

Upongraduation,Karcher and Brownie moved to Guymon where he was hired as an extension agent. While in Guymon, their third daughter Suzanne was born.

Karcher worked a few more years as an extension agent until he took a job in Kansas as a sales rep for Olin Chemical Company and then Garvey Grain.

In 1969, Karcher and Brownie moved back to Hennessey where he eventually started Twenty/ Twenty Oil & Gas Inc., which is still in business today.

Karcher’s last move was back to Stillwater with Brownie where they could enjoy grandchildren and cheer for OSU sports.

Karcher is survived by three daughters, Linda Howe and husband Dale of Hennessey, Ginger Vincent of Stillwater, Suzanne Maxwell and husband Rickey of Orange Beach, Ala.; six grandchildren, Katie Barrett and husband Shannon of Houston, Texas, Cody and Mollye Vincent of Hugo, Kendsy Vincent of Stillwater, Tyler and Gina Maxwell of Chicago, Ill., Mitch Maxwell of Edmond, Amy Charmasson and Chad of Hennessey; six beautiful great-grandchildren, Avery and Jack Barrett of Houston, Cade and Crew Charmasson of Hennessey, and Jayde and Natalie Maxwell of Chicago.

Karcher was preceded in death by his wife, parents and three brothers, Theron Jr., John and Clint Hobbs.
