LaVada Jeanne Yost was born Dec. 11, 1930, to W.M. and G. Louise Martin in Kingfisher.

She passed away July 4, 2022, at the age of 91.

LaVada graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1948 and went to work at Cimarron Electric.

On Oct. 7, 1951, LaVada married Jack Leonard Yost.

She moved to the country and spent the next 15 years being a farmer’s wife and mother to their four children, Den Yost of Kingfisher, Sue Streck of Yukon, Dan Yost of Terlton and Kim McGruder of Milton, Fla.

In July 1967, her husband Jack passed away and LaVada took over the farming and ranching operations.

Over the years, she held several positions of employment, a brief stint at Lawrence’s Department Store, Kingfisher Community Hospital and the rest of her career as a county clerk in the Kingfisher County Courthouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Leonard Yost; brother, Marvin E. Martin; granddaughter, Niki Streck Culbreath.

She is survived by her siblings, Kenneth Martin of San Antiono, Texas, and Maurine Cozart of Joshua, Texas; her children, Den Yost and wife Bev, Sue Streck and husband Randy, Dan Yost and wife Ronna and Kim McGruder; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

LaVada spent many hours cooking and packing meals to the field during harvest and planting seasons.

She grew massive gardens and preserved large amount of food. She spent many hours sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren, including quilts she lovingly created for each of the grandchildren.

LaVada was a member of and very active in several extension home and garden clubs.

She enjoyed being active in her church and cooking for church functions. She was a student of scripture and enjoyed studying her Bible.

LaVada loved to dance. She enjoyed music to the very end.

We picture her taking a twirl on Dad’s arm and dancing with Jesus in Heaven.

Services for LaVada will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, at Sanders Funeral Service Chapel with interment following at Kingfisher Cemetery.
